About

Welcome to The Northern California Herpetological Society (NCHS). We hope you share our desire to increase the quality of life for captive reptiles and amphibians.

NCHS provides educational programming to better inform the public about the roles of reptiles and amphibians in our environment. NCHS also has a rescue and rehabilitation program providing proper housing, diet, and medical care to animals which are abandoned, abused, neglected, picked up by animal control agencies, found by the general public, etc… We partially fund these efforts through our educational programming, but this does not begin to cover the range of our current expenses. Your tax deductible donations are always appreciated.

Becoming a member of NCHS is a great way to support the goals of this organization. We welcome new general members who want to become more involved with NCHS and what we are doing. Another way you can help is through donations of supplies or money. All proceeds raised will go towards supporting treatment and care of sick or injured animals.

NCHS is dedicated to improving the availability of information for the proper care and husbandry of reptiles and amphibians in captivity. We strive to achieve this goal in three distinct ways:

Education:

NCHS strives to provide quality live animal education presentations to the public through schools, youth and civic groups. We also participate in many public animal outreach events. Through these educational programs we utilize live animals, tools of the trade, and teach about care and husbandry procedures for reptiles and amphibians.

Conservation:

NCHS promotes the acquisition of captive bred reptiles and amphibians to reduce the stress on wildlife populations. NCHS also supports conservation efforts throughout Northern California.

Rescue and Rehabilitation:

We provide rehabilitation and rescue for native and exotic reptiles and amphibians. We do this while working in conjunction with state and federal wildlife agencies, animal control facilities, veterinary associations and private practices, and zoological associations. At the current time, our rehab efforts are small due to space.

NCHS will accept reptiles and amphibians which require medical care or ones that are abandoned or unwanted from the general public on the condition that ownership is relinquished in writing and a small donation is made to the society to help us in our rescue efforts. When these animals receive a clean bill of health, they will be placed for adoption or retained for use in educational programs.

* NOTE * NCHS DOES NOT SHIP ANY ANIMALS, EVER.
